The novel is a suitable platform for representing social and cultural events and incidents, so semiotics emerges to reveal the implicit and hidden layers of the story to the audience. "Guest of these gentlemen", the prison memoirs of Mahmoud Etemadzadeh (1934-2016), reflects the political, social and cultural conditions of the Pahlavi era, which this approach has been able to analyze and examine the diversity of social and cultural signs and how they are displayed in the space of the story. In this research, we aim to use a qualitative and analytical method and using library resources and in the light of the two signs of self and other in the cultural semiotics approach and the two components of identity and etiquette of the social semiotics approach, to criticize and examine social concerns, especially the problems and sufferings of prisoners and the welfare deficiencies of the prison, the recognition of the personality of the author and other prisoners and prison factors in the Pahlavi era.
The research findings show that cultural signs have explained the position of self and other, and the identity component such as place; It reflects the author's anxiety in a different place, and the sign of religion also represents and introduces the author's ideology. The components of etiquette are manifested in the form of tone and mannerisms, which reflect the social relations of the prisoners, and the food, which expresses the class gap prevailing in society.
